When I was growing up, my parents worked around the clock, so I spent most of my time with my grandparents. My grandma would make me sunny-side-up eggs for dinner (quick, simple, healthy). My grandpa would slice a big loaf of bread and top it with a generous chunk of butter. To this day, those meals remain my comfort foods, little reminders of love, warmth, and togetherness.
I think everyone has a story with food, it’s where traditions are passed down, where gossip and care are shared, and where people come together. Growing up with parents who worked nonstop meant I spent most of my time with my grandparents. My grandma’s sunny-side-up eggs and my grandpa’s thick slices of bread with butter became my comfort foods, small acts of love that stayed with me.
This show reflects on connection, on missing the ones we love, and on how food holds those feelings. It also tells my story of not being born in the US and how I continue to create my own traditions through food.
